October 9 Weekly news

We have a student teacher, Ms. Curtis, working with us until October 15.  She will be teaching all of the classes this last week.  These are the topics we are working on in each subject.

Reading - Cause and Effect with the novels the groups have been reading.  They also worked on sequencing by listing the events in the order they happened.

Math -Place value.  Our whole class has  been working on 5 minute timings.  Everyone is working on multiplication now and will return to addition and subtraction after multiplication is mastered.  The students learn the facts in third grade and commit them to memory in fourth grade.  They are expected to come into fifth grade knowing them.  Please work on those facts at home if your child has not passed multiplication.  As we have broken it into smaller chunks, you will see the same facts popping up wrong.  Please take time that night to go over those.  Make flashcards for these that are not yet known.  Practice a little every night if possible.

Spelling - Please make sure your child is studying and working on the words during the week.  There should be improvement from the pretest on Monday to the final test on Friday.

Social - Peopling of the United States.  Last week was spent on Native American groups.  Next week we will be discussing the different cultural groups who have come and their contributions through the years.

Have a great week.
